2010 Minnesota Private and Independent
Education Awards
The Minnesota Independent School Forum (MISF), at a special ceremony last week, introduced winners of the second annual Minnesota Private and Independent Education Awards, a celebration highlighting the quality of education in Minnesota’s nonpublic K-12 school community. The 2010 Minnesota Private and Independent Education Awards were presented on Thursday, April 29 at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota - Minneapolis Campus.
The Honor Teacher Award recognized an elementary and a secondary educator who, in the eyes of the private and independent education community, models outstanding service to the students and school. This educator is a leader and models a commitment to engaging and developing the whole student.The Honor Teacher Award for grades K-8 was presented to Bill Johnson from Saint Michael’s Lakeside School in Duluth, MN. The Honor Teacher Award for grades 9-12 was presented to Kathy Meier from Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, MN.
The Story Award category celebrated three individual and two program recipients: Mary Lou Mathiowetz and family – Community Champion Award, St. Mary’s Catholic School (Sleepy Eye), Ben Goodrich – Against-All-Odds Award, Concordia Academy (Roseville), Ellie Ghostley – Behind-the-Scenes Award, St. Stephen’s Catholic School (Anoka), Experimental Vehicle Team – Academic Program Award, Saint Thomas Academy (Mendota Heights), and Brazil Culture and History Study Tour–Program Award, DeLaSalle High School (Minneapolis).
